What does it take capturing Northumberland Living’s vision of a home before it’s even lived in? That was the challenge I faced when I began filming for Northumberland Living, documenting the transformation of both West Chevington Farm and their latest development, Ravensmount. My goal was clear: showcase not just the structures, but the lifestyle, craftsmanship, and vision behind these stunning property designs.
But like any creative process, filming is never without its challenges—unpredictable weather, tight schedules, and the sheer scale of these projects tested my adaptability. Still, capturing the heart of Northumberland Living meant pushing through, problem-solving, and ensuring every shot told the right story.
West Chevington Farm – A Perfect Start to Capturing Northumberland Living’s Vision!
Stepping onto West Chevington Farm for the first time, I was met with a rare sight in England—clear blue skies, a light breeze, and perfect conditions for drone flying. For a videographer, that’s like hitting the jackpot.
As I launched the drone, I focused on wide, sweeping shots to emphasize the sheer scale of the development, blending modern property design with the untouched beauty of the surrounding landscape. But the biggest challenge? Capturing both the raw nature of a developing site and the polished vision it was evolving into. A balance between showing the work in progress while still making it look aspirational.
A few hours in, I hit a snag—a software issue on my drone mid-flight. Watching your drone hover mid-air, unresponsive, is enough to make your heart race. But years of experience taught me to stay calm, troubleshoot, and within minutes, I had it back under control. Crisis averted, and I got some of my favorite footage of the day.
The Details Matter – Getting Up Close and Personal
After days of aerial shots, it was time to get down to the details. The interiors of West Chevington Farm were coming together beautifully, with natural stonework, timber beams, and sleek modern finishes blending seamlessly.
One of the biggest challenges? Lighting. Some areas were naturally bright and airy, while others required some creative angles to get the perfect shot. I found myself shifting between wide shots that showcased the open-plan designs and intimate close-ups that highlighted the quality of craftsmanship.
As the sun set, I knew I had what I needed—a collection of stunning visuals that perfectly encapsulated what Northumberland Living was creating at West Chevington Farm.
Ravensmount – A Different Challenge, A Different Approach

Just as I was wrapping up one project, I was diving into another—Ravensmount, a new development just minutes from Alnwick Castle. This project had a completely different vibe. While West Chevington Farm was about rural elegance, Ravensmount was about prestige and heritage.
Unlike my stroke of luck with the weather before, this time, the skies weren’t as forgiving. Cloud cover threatened to dull the vibrancy of my shots, and a steady wind made drone work trickier than expected. But that’s part of the job—adapting on the fly (sometimes literally). Between adjusting my flight paths and waiting for breaks in the cloud cover, I managed to capture the site in its best light—both figuratively and literally.
One moment that stood out? As I was preparing to wrap up, the sky unexpectedly cleared just in time for golden hour. It was one of those cinematic moments you can’t plan for. I quickly set up, capturing Ravensmount bathed in warm sunlight with Alnwick Castle standing proudly in the background—a perfect shot that tied history and modern living together.
Final Thoughts – The Reward of Overcoming Challenges
Looking back, filming for Northumberland Living wasn’t just about creating a promotional video—it was about documenting a vision coming to life. From dealing with technical setbacks to battling unpredictable weather, every challenge pushed me to be more creative and resourceful. But the result? A collection of visuals that truly showcase the care, quality, and expertise that Northumberland Living brings to property design.
Filming properties isn’t just about making them look good on screen—it’s about capturing the feeling of what it’s like to be there, to imagine yourself stepping through the doors, to experience the craftsmanship up close. And after weeks of filming, I can confidently say that Northumberland Living’s developments are more than just homes—they are experiences waiting to be lived.
Now, onto the next project—but something tells me I’ll be back capturing Northumberland Living’s journey again soon. And I wouldn’t have it any other way.
